SACRAMENTO (June 30, 2010) — Federal Receiver J. Clark Kelso today announced an agreement with Health Net to administer and provide “Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) Services” to California Prison Health Care Services (CPHCS). This contract is designed to provide cost-effective health care services to adult inmates at California’s 33 prisons and will improve inmate access for health care through a statewide network of providers aligned with the Health Net system.
“I am pleased that Health Net has agreed to partner with us to develop a managed-care system for providing health care services to our prisoner population,” Kelso said. “In these times of dwindling state resources, it is important for us to ensure that inmates’ access to health care is cost-effective, as well as appropriate. A managed care system is the best way to accomplish both priorities, and I look forward to working with Health Net’s experts to achieve our goal of providing constitutionally acceptable care at the lowest cost possible.”
