When will I receive my results after completing an assessment or exam?

For online self-assessments, you will receive your score immediately. For assessments/exams that are not available online the score will be available after the documents have been received and processed by CCHCS, which usually occurs within three weeks after the date of submission. If you have not received a formal notification containing your score by the end of that three-week period, please contact CCHCS Examination Services at CPHCSSelectionServices@cdcr.ca.gov. Be prepared to provide your first and last name and the examination title for which you applied.

How do I verify my eligibility and store after completing an assessment/exam?

To verify your eligibility and score please follow the steps below.

  1. Log in to your CalCareers account.
  2. Click the “Exam/Assessment Records” link from the list on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. Select the “Active Eligibility” tab to view the list(s) by classification for which you are currently eligible.
  4. Select the “Exam Notifications” tab to view both your assessment results (score and ranking) and any scheduled future assessments/exams. Please note that it may take up to three business days for online assessment/exam results and three to six weeks for paper assessment/exam results to appear under this tab.

Please note that some eligibility lists have up to nine ranks. Candidates must be in the top three ranks to be considered reachable and subsequently eligible for hire. Most of the licensed medical, dental, and mental health eligibility lists consist of only three ranks.

What is Veterans’ Preference, and how do I apply?

Veterans’ Preference is an assistance program aimed at helping eligible individuals who are seeking employment with the state. Any veteran, widow/widower of a veteran, or spouse of a 100% disabled veteran who achieves a passing score on the assessment/exam, shall be moved to the top rank of the eligibility list. Veterans who have been dishonorably discharged or released are not eligible for Veterans’ Preference.

Please note that not all assessments/exams qualify for Veterans’ Preference, so be sure to review the bulletin carefully.

To apply for Veterans’ Preference, please visit https://calcareers.ca.gov and select the icon titled, “Veterans,” located in the middle of the page. Next, select the icon titled, “Veterans’ Information.” Be sure to read the page thoroughly, as it provides detailed instructions regarding the application process.

I applied for a job. When will I be contacted for an interview?

When you apply for a job your application is sent to the Human Resources (HR) Office, where it goes through a screening process. Only the most competitive applications pass the screening process. Those that pass the screening process are then forwarded to a hiring manager for further review. The hiring manager determines from these applications which candidates to interview. If you are successful, a CCHCS staff person will contact you by telephone to schedule your interview. Please note that the screening and review process may take as little as a few weeks or as long as several months.

Employment with CCHCS is very competitive. To make your application standout, be sure to carefully describe in detail as much of your employment history as possible and list all of your professional degrees, licenses, and certifications. Note: Follow the directions in the Special Requirements.

Most importantly, do not be discouraged if you do not hear from CCHCS right away. Even if you have submitted multiple applications for one institution, your application may be reviewed by a different hiring manager each time, or for a similar position requiring different skill sets. We encourage you to keep trying.
